What is Semi Permanent Cosmetic Makeup?

Does semi permanent cosmetic makeup sound scary to you? It did to me too until I actually read up about it as with me, my fear came through ignorance! Semi Permanent Makeup is basically having your make up tattooed on, and it is used mainly for Eyebrows, Eyeliner and Lips. It is an innovative procedure in which pigments are put in your skin using tiny micro-needles. They don’t go as deep down into your skin as permanent tattoos do for example, but they go into the dermal layer of skin which means it’s temporary.

Although it is also known as permanent cosmetic makeup, it is more widely called ‘semi’ in the UK, but one should consider that although it can last up to 2 years generally, it can be longer or less, depending on skin age, skin colour and tone and submission to the elements such as sun bathing etc.

Semi Permanent Cosmetic Makeup is becoming more popular and more recognised which is due to the amount of new technicians that are being trained, and the exposure that this treatment is getting in the media has also widened its appeal. Many celebrities have this procedure as it means less time can be spent in the makeup chair and also if they get ‘papped’ by photographers when they have no makeup on, they are more likely to look better than if they had no makeup on at all.

Procedures that can be done with permanent cosmetic make up are designed eyebrows, filled in lips, eyeliners, scar camouflage and hair simulation. To reduce the pain of the treatment a numbing cream will be used prior to the treatment, and sterilized needle will then be used to tattoo small amount of pigment ink into the top layer of the skin.

Procedures can take 2 -3 hours but this also includes the makeup being drawn onto the skin beforehand which will demonstrate the shape and look of the final treatment before its complete.

All in all permanent cosmetic makeup sounds a real winner to me as the less time I have in the morning to apply makeup the more time I get in bed!
